The Biafo and Hispar glaciers are ranked among the most extensive ice fields outside the polar circles. The trekking path connecting Baltistan to the famed Hunza Valley represents the world’s longest glacial crossing. Beginning our journey at Askole, we trek across the Biafo Glacier to reach the immense snow basin known as Snow Lake, which is encircled by summits exceeding 6,000 meters.
Snow Lake spans a total of 77 square kilometers. Renowned explorers have documented this region in their journals, while the traveler Tillman famously noted the existence of the legendary Yeti after discovering the creature's tracks near the snowy expanse.

Head down onto the ice to maneuver through crevassed zones and rocky ridges. Reach the Mango campsite, located on a verdant bank along the glacier’s edge, frequently decorated with streams and alpine flora. (Tents, ~3660 m)
⛺🌄 Lodge in a fertile basin beneath massive granite towers.
A day of consistent climbing onto the glacier’s central "highway." The path becomes easier as the ground levels out. Rest in an expansive green meadow offering sweeping vistas and potential sightings of local ibex. (Tents, ~3990 m)

A demanding trek as you move toward the upper reaches of the Biafo-Hispar corridor. The slope increases, sometimes requiring rope teams near deep fissures. Look up to see the legendary Ogre (7,813 m) piercing the sky. (Tents, ~4410 m)

Trudge across the leveling glacier into the immense basin of Snow Lake—a giant snowy amphitheater ringed by jagged spires. Establish your high-altitude camp in this hauntingly beautiful ice world. (~4750 m)

Free day to explore the icy basin, take photographs, or marvel at the isolating beauty of this glacier bowl stretching over 16 km. Use the rest to recover before ascending to Hispar La. (4750 m)

Cross the glacier and begin final ascent to the pass. Crevasse navigation and moderate climbing required. The pass offers breathtaking views of both glacier systems and surrounding mountainous giants. (Pass at ~5150 m)
⛺🌬️ Careful descent into the Hispar Valley’s wild reaches.
Descend the Hispar Glacier, negotiating fracture zones before reaching grassy ablation valleys at Kani Basa. Enjoy views of Kanjut Sar (7760 m) dominating the skyline. (Tents, ~4511 m)
🥾 Rugged terrain with glacier rivers and rocky passages.
Traverse moraine ridges and glacial streams across rugged terrain. Camp at Yutmaru beside Glacier’s edge on terrain that gets gradually greener as altitude lowers. (Tents, ~4130 m)
🌿🐄 Beautiful shepherd camps and meadows appear again.
Continue descent. By evening reach Bitanmal in a breezy alpine meadow, shepherd huts nearby, possibility of fresh local dairy. Camp in this pastoral setting as civilization nears. (4080 m→3660 m)
🌳🏘️ Final trekking day to the first human settlement in days.
Final trekking day to Hispar Village. After crossing a small glacier and streams, you arrive at the first village in nearly two weeks. A simple green campsite near orchards, you’ll feel connection to local life again. (2302 m)

Navigate scenic mountain passes by Jeep as you enter Hunza. Upon arriving in Karimabad, settle into your hotel and observe the distinct cultural shift from the landscapes of Nagar and Baltistan. (~2440 m)
